MOUNT KENYA TREKKING
TREKKING ROUTES
Mount Kenya is made up of three main peaks, Batian(5199m), Nelion(5188m) and Point Lenana(4985m). There are a number of different trekking routes on the mountain that vary in length and offer a variety of different views and perspectives of the mountain and the surrounding country.
-
If your starting point is Nairobi then the Chogoria route will be the fastest routes to access. It is also one of our favourite routes on the mountain boasting some of Mt Kenya’s more spectacular scenery and beautiful lakes.
If you are looking for something more remote that would be starting on the Northern side of the Mountain then the Timau route will work perfectly.
The Burguret route is right off the beaten path and starts in dense afro-montane forest which opens up at the end of day 2 allowing for spectacular views on day 3.
-
The best time to climb Mt Kenya is from Mid December through to Early April and then Mid June through to Mid October. However due to climate change this can be variable.
-
The highest peak on Mt Kenya is Batian (5199m), which requires a technical ascents on predominantly 3rd class scrambling with several sections of about Yosemite grade 5.7 or British grade Very Severe.
-
It typically takes most people about 5-6 days to trek to point Lenana(4985m) or about 7-8 days to climb to the highest point of Batian(5199m)
