Climbing is for everyone who enjoys the great outdoors, full of adrenalin that we all somehow have come to love, taking us right out of our comfort zones. Ultimately Rock climbing is a sport that provides the thrills of being at height, the satisfaction of achieving and completing a climb, and the experience of working together and using the equipment to enjoy the sport safely.

Rock climbing comes in many different disciplines, from single pitch to multi pitch, from top rope set ups to leaders placing protection in traditional climbing; all can be learnt with African Ascents. African Ascents has been working in rock climbing for many years, developing the skills and qualifications needed to deliver information effectively to keen participants. We have gathered information along the way and have produced a variety of rock climbing activities and courses ready to be enjoyed. These activities and courses are suitable for anyone with an interest in this fantastic sport, from School groups to corporate groups, private groups, families, individuals and those wanting to take part in team building activities.

African Ascents uses 3 currently established rock climbing locations – Lukenya, Hells Gate and Ngare Ndare.

Ngare Ndare conservancy, one of the only growing forests in Kenya. The forest lies on the edge of Lewa and Borana conservancies allowing for free movement of wildlife. With in the conservancy is a small single pitch crag and a stunning canyon with blue pools. The lovely single pitch rock climbing venue provides some easy and some very challenging climbing ideal for a family group day out or weekends climbing. The area has great access to the forest; we can incorporate a rock climbing day with time in the blue pools of the Ngare Ndare Canyon.

We have several accommodation options with in Nanyuki town, Soames Hotel and Restaurant, Colobus Cottages and The Shepherds Huts. All a great base for your Ngare Ndare day out or weekend adventure. Alternatively there is an option to camp in the forest, either self camp or we can provide the camp for you.

Located in Hells Gate National Park which comes under the management of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS). It is known for its huge rock face, known as main wall. This offers some very challenging multi pitch climbing. However, in the area is a lovely environment for single pitch crack climbing and short multi pitch climbs. The national park has no large predators making it safe to walk and climb amongst Giraffe, Zebra and Gazelles.

You can opt to stay in a small camp inside the park adjacent to main wall, or there are some great options on the shores of Lake Naivasha, that have swimming pools, bars and restaurants for extra comfort.

The Aberdares hosts Dragons Teeth Crag, this is an amazing rock formation siting in the moorland to the north of the Aberdares National park. The rock formation has both single and multi pitch rock climbing. We offer 3 day packages, either as a group or 1 guide for 2 climbers. Every trip can be full hosted by us or guiding only.

Whatever your rock climbing needs, do not hesitate to get in touch. This company is based on a passion for climbing and we love to express this passion and pass on knowledge to anyone interested.
